40th Anniversary - Memories from staff and friends

David Williams was the first headteacher of St Francis School from 1969 to 1995. He has been talking to broadcaster Dave Bussey about applying for the position and the months and days preceding the opening.

Here David remembers the opening of the school, his successes and the memories he took into retirement.



Ann Hoffmann, the current Headteacher took over from David Williams and for fifteen years has been looking after St. Francis. Here she talks to Dave Bussey about her early connections with the school and where it might be heading in the future.

St Francis School was opened by Margaret Thatcher.
At that time, she had probably never even dreamt that one day she would be Britain's Prime Minister.
This recording was made from the back of the
school hall on the day, consequently the quality is not what it might have been, but wonderful to have something !
Joan Wilkins taught at St Francis from 1980 to 1998
and was head of the middle school prior to retiring.
Here she talks about a school visit to London in the eighties.

Val Edwards (Rawding) joined the school in 1970
Even after she left, continued to come back
and help out from time to time

Mark was a pupil from 1971-1976.
He has been talking to today's youngsters about life
in and after school

After leaving St Francis, Mark became involved in running an organisation called "CHOICES AND RIGHTS" and here
he gives an example of the kind of work they undertake

Mandy was at St Francis from 1972-1980.
Here she is talking to staff and pupils and revealling details of
a kiss behind the blackboard

  Tracey Parr (Baxter) came to St Francis in 1989
